Carboneras is a typical unspoilt Spanish town. The beach is clean and uncrowded. The promenade is traffic free, long and flat with a fishing port and marina at one end. The promenade restaurants and bars offer a good range of tapas and because fishing is a daily affair, exquisite fresh fish and seafood dishes abound.

Carboneras is in the province of Almeria; 45 minutes drive from Almeria airport and on the fringe of the Cabo de Gata National Park. The park stretches for 30km along the coastline from Carboneras to the city of Almeria. Unusual plants and flowers flourish in this mainly uninhabited area where over 1000 plant species can be found. Flamingos and Storks can be seen on and around the salt pans of Cabo de Gata, eagles and vultures on the barren landscape and during the migration season many hundreds of bird’s spiral in the warm thermals. The park extends into many marine areas, adjacent to the rugged coastline offering great diving and snorkelling opportunities.

Part of the beauty of Carboneras lies in its beaches. It has almost 17km of fine sandy beaches along its coast. One of the finest being the El Ancon beach which regularly receives the yearly Blue ECC long around and is only a 10 minute walk away from our apartment block.

The holiday apartments are situated on the edge of the town, less than 10 minutes walking distance from the shops, beach and the paved promenade.

This area of Spain has the most enjoyable climate throughout the whole of Europe. Having the most hours of sunlight, less than 12 inches of rain on average per annum, and warm seas and the warm winter sunshine makes eating out a pleasure at all times.

The drive to Mojacar, 10 miles further along the coastline from Carboneras is breathtakingly beautiful. The road runs parallel to the coastline never losing contact with the sea, skirting the Sierra Cabrera Mountains.

Mojacar, where our mobility shop is located is well worth a visit and has plenty to offer. It is the largest and most popular tourist resort in the area and English is spoken in many shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, chemists, doctors and dentist surgeries etc.

Golf enthusiast are also well catered for as there are four fine local golf courses including the famous Desert Springs golf course which is one of the finest in Europe.
